Default Looking for dog friendly housing in Sai Kung or other dog friendly areas in NT - 19th December 2006

I'm looking to rent a low-rise/house in the New Territories area. My husband will be commuting to Shenzhen several times a week and I will be attending CUHK. I've checked out Tai Po, Shatin, and several other areas but it seems like dogs aren't allowed in many parks. We are avid hikers so we don't want to live too far from trails. I found Sai Kung suitable and even some houses with actual yards (not concrete patios). Clearwater Bay is a bit too far from the KCR. I'm having trouble finding a realtor to help. We aren't looking for a big place (less than 1000 feet) and therefor we want something around $10,000. The problem I've faced is that some of the apartments we looked at in Tai Po and Shatin are a complete mess with floors buckling and such and hardly any grassy areas to play with our dog. Any advice on finding a rental in excellent condition that isn't 2,000 sq. feet? Are there any other areas in NT as relaxed as Sai Kung and Lamma for nature and dog lovers?

Just to clarify, village houses in NT are typically 680-700sqft (1 floor), 1400sqft (2 floors) or 2100sqft (3 floors). Be warned that some units are half size, 50% of areas above, so you might be offered 700-800 sqft over two floors.

The ground floor has the chance of a patio area, middle floor typically has a balcony, and the top floor has approx 700sqft roof. For Sai kung you can go to the Sai kung town centre, visit golden treasure or Cary court agencies both are located on the main road, nr the bus terminus.

The majority (98% or more) of ground floor units will have concrete patios / garden. Very very few will have any grass/lawn. If you ask for a garden it will be interpreted as concrete patio, since grass is way too much trouble to maintain.

hope this helps
